Puma Energy has launched ‘Puma Protect’, a first anti-bacterial hand sanitiser spray for its service station network in South Africa. The profits from the first three months’ sales of ‘Puma Protect’ will be donated to an NGO caring for vulnerable children, Children of The Dawn.

The spray has been developed from concept to delivery in just two months and is available in Puma Energy’s 68 service stations across South Africa. The spray, manufactured with blending partner SOS Oil, headquartered in Cape Town, has been fully authorised by authorities in South Africa as a medical-grade product.

Puma Energy’s Global Head of Lubricants, Govert Spit, leads the team that developed the sanitizer spray. Spit said: “I feel deeply proud that the Puma Energy Lubricants team has been able to be part of addressing the urgent need during this crisis. We sprinted out of the blocks to react to this emergency. In just a few weeks we have been able to adapt what we do and respond to the needs of our customers and the communities we serve. Sometimes our greatest contribution to ‘energising communities’ is to keep them safe.”

According to the World Health Organization, washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand sanitisers kills viruses and is an essential preventative measure in the fight against COVID-19. Regulations in South Africa require that sanitiser sprays contain at least 70% alcohol and meet rigorous testing standards in terms of production, storage and bottling. Puma Energy was pleased to work with SOS Oil to meet these standards.

Puma Energy makes the health and safety of its employees, customers and partners its top priority and seized at the opportunity that presented itself to distribute this pivotal product to those that need it most.  In its fight against the virus, Puma Energy has put a special focus on the provision of hand sanitisers and implementing stringent cleaning processes throughout its operations. It also adheres strictly to social distancing guidelines and other best practices recommended by the WHO in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Puma Energy has a significant presence in developing markets across the world. The company’s purpose is to energise communities to drive growth and prosperity. The company cares deeply about the vulnerable and those most impacted by COVID-19 and is committed to making a positive contribution in the communities it serves.
