After Apple unveiled the third generation of its iPad tablet, local distributor of Apple products for Southern Africa, the Core Group, announces a significant price drop for the second generation model. Local customers are now able to purchase the iPad 2 starting at R3999.

The Core Group said that iPad 2 16 GB Wi-Fi and 16 GB Wi-Fi + 3G will continue to be available as part of the iPad product range. These price changes are subject to the discretion of the individual retailer, and clients are encouraged to contact their nearest iPad Authorised Reseller for more information.

“We are thrilled to offer South Africans the opportunity to purchase iPad 2 at a significantly reduced recommended retail price. At just R3999, iPad is accessible to many more customers”, said Rutger-Jan van Spaandonk, executive director of the Core Group.

Van Spaandonk stated that there has been almost no new innovation in the PC space that warrants upgrading a PC. He said that iPad 2 sports most of the features which users require from a PC such as email, internet, word processing, Skype, Twitter, and Facebook. According to him, this mobile device further adds almost “infinite value” via the hundreds of thousands of iPad apps available from Apple’s App Store.

Model: Wi-Fi only version Wi-Fi + 3G

In related news Apple also launched its iOS 5.1 update along with the new iPad, which brings several welcome new features and bug fixes to the mobile operating system table.
