According to Kotaku, Ubisoft studios, developers of the Assassin's Creed games, recently launched a new Facebook-based game known as Project Legacy which will see players vying for targets inside the massive social network.

Given the popularity of browser based Facebook games such as Mafia Wars and Farmville, it was only a matter of time before we saw bigger gaming companies attempt to try and tackle the market.

Project Legacy will be a training simulator for Abstergo Industries, a Templar fronting company. When players start the game they will be asked a series of questions, once these have been answered players will be placed inside the Animus where they will have to relive key moments in history through the eyes of long dead Templar brethren.

Players will need to complete missions to synchronise the array of memories and as they do so a story starts unfolding which we're told is quite a bit more substantial than what one would usually find in browser-based games.

The game builds a lot on the Mafia Wars premise, with players able to go on missions, purchase items and generally vying to be the deadliest Assassin in the land.

Ubisoft is also rewarding players who choose to pick up this mini Assassin's Creed by letting them earn Uplay points throughout the game which can then later be used to unlock rewards in other Ubisoft titles.

If you'd like to give prowling through Facebook a try, head on over to the Project Legacy Facebook page to play the game for free.
