DStv Mobile is providing a constant flow of portable television solutions, now unveiling the new Walka 7.

The Walka 7 looks set to be a decent upgrade to the original Walka handheld, providing a 7” screen (800 x 400 resolution), up from 3.5”. Also onboard are two 1.5 Watt speakers for improved audio quality, a rechargeable battery with up to six hours of viewing (the Walka did three) and four aspect ratio settings. This 442 gram device comes with a 600 MHz processor (make not specified), including a mini USB cable (for charging the battery), a USB charger and a stand inside the box.

You do pay more for the privilege of the Walka 7's larger screen, but not that much, since it retails for R900, R200 more than the original.

For us, the strongest reasons to buy the Walka 7 (or any of DStv’s other portable solutions) remains the availability of SuperSport (SuperSport 1-4 and Blitz), which provides access to the Springbok tests, Super 15 rugby and Premier League matches.

Furthermore you’ll find the following channels:
AfricaMagic
Channel O
CNNi
Discovery Channel
Disney XD
eNews Channel
M-Net Series Mobile
Sony MAX

Apart from coughing up the R900 for the Walka 7, there is also a R50 subscription fee to DStv Mobile per month. DStv Premium subscribers need not worry about paying though, since DStv Mobile for Premium (with access to M-Net Mobile extra) is provided for free.

“The massive growth in new technologies seen both locally and across Africa has shown consumers’ readiness and appetite for innovative intuitive devices like the Walka 7,” says Mark Rayner, the  CEO of DStv Mobile. “DStv Mobile has thus launched the Walka 7 – providing subscribers with a device that has a larger screen and improved battery life.”

The Walka 7 should be available from MultiChoice centres and select retailers from the beginning of October 2012. For more information on this and DStv Mobile’s other devices (the Walka, Drifta, Drifta USB and the recently launched iDrifta), visit www.dstvmobile.com.
