After its mobile user tally reached 543 million last month, social networking behemoth Facebook announces that there are now more than one billion users registered for the site who are actively using the social network each month.

Beyond this users milestone, Facebook also revealed that the site has accumulated north of 1.3 trillion likes, 140.3 billion friend connections, 219 billion photos uploaded, 17 billion location check-ins, and now sports more than 600 million mobile users.

The median age of the average Facebook user is about 22 years old, which is one year younger compared to an average age of 23 when Facebook crossed the 500 million mark back in July 2010. Users who signed up for Facebook during that period (July 2010) now have an average of 305 Facebook friends each. The newest median age is also four years younger than when the firm breezed past the 100 million mark during August 2008.

In honour of its latest user tally milestone the company announced the release of its first ever brand video, to express humanity’s place on earth.

“We believe that the need to open up and connect is what makes us human. It’s what brings us together. It’s what brings meaning to our lives. Facebook isn’t the first thing people have made to help us connect. We belong to a rich tradition of people making things that bring us together,” a post from Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg read.

In other social networking related news, Google recently revealed that its Google+ social network has surpassed the 400 million user milestone, with 100 million of these using Google+ actively on a monthly basis.
