Google announced that it has acquired Admob for $750 million (approx. R 5.55 billion) worth of shares in Google. Admob is one of the biggest advertising networks in the mobile industry, and this acquisition is one of the largest thus far by the search giant.

Google, which makes nearly all of its money through its advertising business, will gain a new platform through which advertisers can market their wares to consumers.

“…mobile phones are becoming an increasingly indispensable part of our daily lives, and we continue to see how great devices with full Internet browsers and vibrant app marketplaces are driving an explosion of usage,” said Susan Wojcicki, Vice President of Product Management for Google. “Despite the tremendous growth in mobile usage and the substantial investment by many businesses in the space, the mobile web is still in its early stages. We believe that great mobile advertising products can encourage even more growth in the mobile ecosystem. That’s what has us excited about this deal.”

Wojcicki said she believes consumers will gain by the increase in mobile content and a boost in useful info through better mobile ads. Publishers of mobile websites and applications will have access to better products and tools, permitting them to focus more on their users and less on how to make money. She added that for advertisers who want to reach consumers through mobile content, this deal will lead to better, more relevant ads and greater reach.
