Notebook manufacturers have their work cut out for them in terms of producing notebooks that are not only fast, powerful and available at the best price possible, but also ones that stand out from their competitors.

Dell’s latest effort in this regard has been the launch of its new Inspiron R line of notebooks with interchangeable lids, aimed at giving users a fun and quick way of switching the colour of their notebooks.

The SWITCH by Design Studio collection includes 23 new lids sporting vibrant colours and unique designs. Selected lids are currently available, with more options to follow in coming weeks.

Despite its emphasis on design, the Inspiron R range has impressive specifications as well.

The new range of Inspiron boasts second generation Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processor options, up to 8 GB of memory and thirteen hours of battery life with the optional nine-cell battery. Additionally, the Inspiron R, which sports 15" or 17" screens, includes USB 3.0 ports for speedy transfer of data.

The 15" Inspiron R model weighs just over 2.5 kg with the included six cell battery, with an optional longer life nine cell battery also available.

The notebook further supports Blu-ray 3D movie playback when equipped with the optional Blu-ray drive and connected to a 3D display via HDMI. Additional features include a HD capable webcam and Intel Wireless Display technology for wireless projection of full HD (1080p) video and 5.1 surround sound.

Interchangeable lids from the curated collections selected by Dell Design Studio are expected in the near future. The contemporary art and graphic designs available from SWITCH by Design Studio will further offer exclusive selections from independent artists, designers and partners. A portion of the proceeds will be given to The Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa.

The Inspiron 15R range starts with a RRP of R6500, while SWITCH lids will be available from R300.
