Following its unveiling of the GeForce GTX 660 Ti graphics processing unit (GPU) last month, Nvidia has announced two new high-performance GPUs in the form of the GeForce GTX 660 and GeForce GTX 650.

Nvidia stated its latest additions to its GeForce GTX line-up will enable PC gamers who are still utilising older generation graphics cards but cannot afford more premium offerings like the GeForce GTX 670 and GTX 680, to upgrade to newer, more capable models.

This, as its GeForce GTX 660 for instance offers four times better performance compared to the GeForce 9800 GT, whilst the GeForce GTX 650 delivers eight times improved performance over the 9500 GTii, according to the firm.

The company’s GeForce GTX 660 boasts 960 CUDA cores, 384 less than the GTX 660 Ti, 2 GB of dedicated DDR3 RAM, and a 980 MHz base clock that can be boosted to 1033 MHz. In terms of specs, the GTX 650 sports 384 CUDA cores, a snappier 1058 MHz base clock and 1 GB of memory.

Both cards feature DL-DVI-I and DL-DVI-D connections, as well as an HDMI input slot, but the 660 adds a Mini-DP connection. As with the rest of Nvidia’s new Kepler architecture-based GPUs, these cards also feature DirectX 11 Tessellation, Nvidia PhysX support, Adaptive VSync technology, as well as Nvidia’s Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TXAA) that results in much smoother texture graphics rendering amongst enhancements. Nvidia stated that its new GeForce GTX 660 and 650 GPUs are available from its add-in card suppliers, including Asus EVGA, Gainward, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, and Sparkle. No local release info is available yet.
