PopCap Games, one of the worldwide leaders in the casual video game market yesterday announced that their blockbuster hit Plants vs. Zombies is coming to the Nintendo DS.

The game is expected to be released in North America sometime in January 2011, with international release dates still unknown. Pre-orders for the game are already flying of the virtual shelf at $19.95 (about R150) a pop.

The addictive ‘tower defence’ style of the game is set to be improved upon in the DS version. New Adventure, Survival and Puzzle modes will make an appearance, as well as mini-games and new and exclusive game content.

The deceivingly simply game has sold more than a million units since its global debut last year. The game is also available on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad with an Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) version set for release next month.

We can’t wait to see how well this amusing (and addictive) game will do on the Nintendo DS, arguably its perfect platform.

No confirmation regarding a local release has yet been given.
