In response to Microsoft’s Kinect and updated Xbox 360 console announcements earlier this week at the annual E3 gaming conference in Los Angeles, competitor Sony has hit back with pricing and specification details behind the PlayStation Move.
During the company’s recent keynote speech at the conference it revealed that the device behind PlayStation Move, which was first announced to the public in mid 2009, will be known as the PlayStation Wand and will be released internationally in September.
Sony also confirmed that the Move controller, also referred to as the Wand, will be available for $49.99 (R380) and the secondary navigation device for $29.99 (R225) upon release. The pair will also be available in a bundle which will include a number of motion control capable games for $99 (R750).
It is important to note however that these are US based prices and may not accurately reflect local prices upon release. Thus far, local Sony distributor Ster Kinekor has not confirmed if the PlayStation Move package will be released at the same point locally.
Set to compete with Microsoft’s Kinect and Nintendo’s Wii motion control system, the Move it will offer the player the ability to add a new dimension to PlayStation 3 gameplay. Although details behind game support are somewhat fuzzy at present, upcoming titles such as Tiger Woods 11 and Killzone 3 as well as existing titles such as Little.Big.Planet and Heavy Rain will include motion control features.
