Last week we saw the Call of Duty franchise head into outer space with the first trailer for Infinite Warfare, in the process gathering more than one million dislikes. EA and DICE, however, have opted to go a different route for Battlefield. Akin to Ubisoft's approach for Far Cry Primal (review), the recently released reveal trailer for Battlefield 1 heads back to World War I.

More specifically, the dawn of war, as Europe wakes up to the impending threat on their doorstep. For now, the full details on gameplay are unknown. We are hoping that elements shown in the trailer below will find their way into Battlefield 1 though, with melee combat, aerial dogfights and tanks getting in on the action. While the visuals are clearly cinematic cutscenes, EA and DICE would do well to match the intensity on show.

The game is currently available for pre-order on Xbox One, PS4 and PC via EA's Origin store. Developers have it slated for release on 21 October 2016, but before then, a demo version will be on display at EA's Play events on 12 June at E3 2016.
