It's been just shy of 18 months since Evolve made its cross-platform debut. Anticipation was high for the 4v1 FPS title, but sadly it received middling reviews across the board for a lack of depth to the gameplay. Now, developers Turtle Rock Studios is doing everything it can to save the game, recently announcing that a free to play approach will be brought to the PC version, along with several changes currently in beta phase.

What does that mean for PC gamers who have already purchased Evolve? Turtle Rock states that they will receive "Founder status" and all the unlocks they've achieved up until now will be carried over to the new version of Evolve. In addition, they'll receive specific bonus content for free, as well as some in-game currency (amount undisclosed).

Precisely how this new free to play approach will change Evolve's fate remains to be seen, especially as no clear way of monetising the game is evident.

In addition to the freely playable PC version of the game, along with the current open beta, Turtle Rock notes that free to play versions for Xbox One and PS4 are also in the works, but will be dependent on how the PC variant is received.
