When Huawei CEO Richard Yu, unveiled the Huawei Mate 9 last week, much focus was placed on its new second generation Leica-certified camera. Featuring better 4K recording capability, as well as a larger 20 MP Monochrome sensor and improved zooming quality, it's touted as being an overall improvement on the already great dual lens on the Huawei P9.

To get a better idea of what the improved specifications have yielded, we took the Huawei Mate 9 into Munich's city centre, Marienplatz.

Talking points

In particular the Monochrome mode proved great to use, producing beautiful images both from a distance and up close to the subject. Added to this was a rapid autofocus, which makes it great for trying to pull off quick snaps.

While we were still coming to grips with the second gen Leica-certified camera, the Panoramic mode didn't work as desired, likely requiring more finesse and time to capture properly. Furthermore, in Zoom, images did look a bit more grainy in low light conditions than we may have hoped, granted digital zoom rarely offers anything decent.

Nevertheless, the Huawei Mate 9's camera is a pleasure to use, and in the hands of a seasoned photographer should be even better. Scroll further down to see what it came up with.
