Last night, House Higgo in Northcliff played host to an event by HMD Global. The company, which has an exclusive licensing agreement with Nokia to manufacture phones, showcased its new lineup of offerings for the South African public.

To date, we've already seen the new Nokia 3310 land locally, which has garnered quite a bit of attention already, but also in tow were the company's pure Android OS smartphones - the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.

We're familiar with both the Nokia 3310 and Nokia 6, having gone hands-on with them at MWC 17 earlier this year, so we took the time to try out the other two devices in the lineup

Nokia 3

The entry-level smartphone when it comes to the new range, the Nokia 3 is currently available at select retailers across the country, and carries a recommended price tag of R2 199. HMD Global does note however, that the price of the Nokia 3 may be different depending on the retailer.

In terms of specs, the Nokia 3 sports a 5" HD display (1280x720), 8 MP camera on the rear, as well as 2 GB RAM, quad-core MediaTek processor and 16 GB of onboard storage.

Nokia 5

A level up is the Nokia 5, which too is aggressively priced at R2 999, and is currently available for purchase. Like all the Nokia smartphones, HMD is careful to state that prices may vary on the retailer.

On the specs side, screen size is upped to 5.2" but quality still sits at HD (1280x720). Internally a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 CPU does the heavy lifting, with 2 GB RAM, 16 GB onboard storage and 13 MP camera on the back.

Nokia 6

Taking care of HMD Global's mid-range void in the new Nokia lineup is the Nokia 6. Easily the best looking of the three, it features an aluminium body and sculpted Gorilla Glass screen. The display measures 5.5" and touts Full HD quality (1920x1080).

Like the Nokia 5, the Nokia 6 features a Snapdragon 430 processor, but has 3 GB of RAM to call upon and 32 GB of onboard storage. Also in the mix is a 16 MP rear camera and 8 MP front facing one. All of this will cost from R3 999, according to HMD Global, but the Nokia 6 will only be available from local retailers in coming weeks.
