Instagram is a global social media platform. If you're sitting here in South Africa and following a sneakerhead in Japan, there will likely be a language barrier. As such, captions and comments made by foreign language speaking Instagramers might not be fully appreciated. To that end, the company has announced the introduction of an in-app button to translate text.

This button will be rolled out to iOS and Android users in the coming months (July onwards). Instagram notes that the text would be machine translated, akin to Google Translate, so precise grammar might not be 100%, given our experience with the latter.

The company also noted that the translation feature might not work for all posts or comments, specifically older ones, or languages that it does not fully understand as of yet.
