One of the consequences of living in the information age is that it seems as though it is harder than ever to keep an impending new product under wraps until it is officially announced. Leaks accompany rumours to push a new product into the limelight whether it is ready or not - now also the fate of the near-certain Galaxy Note III.

According to BGR, provisioning files on Samsung Mobile’s site have been discovered, pointing to two different model numbers, SM-N900T and  SM-N900A, which apparently reference the Galaxy Note III.

This would fit in with earlier reports that Samsung’s next Galaxy Note would actually be launched in multiple models, ranging from an entry-level iteration to the flagship device.

The specifications of the likely next entry in the Galaxy Note range are rumoured to include a whopping 6” Super AMOLED screen, for those for whom for 5.3” and 5.5” sized screens of its predecessors (Galaxy Note review and Galaxy Note II review)  felt a little too dainty.  The screen will apparently boast a 1920 x 1080 resolution, while the device will be powered by an ARM 11 processor, or, if earlier reports are to be believed, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.3 GHz, and a generous 3 GB of memory, all running on Android Jelly Bean (4.2.2).

What’s more, Samsung is rumoured to be considerably upping its camera game with the Galaxy Note III, which will apparently pack a 13 megapixel snapper.

To the point

While we are always inclined to take rumours and leaks with a pinch of salt, given Samsung’s track record, and the veracity and speed with which it tends to update its devices, the imminent arrival of a Galaxy Note III should hardly come as a shocker.

Our question though is at what point do phablets breach their size and just become small tablets one is trying to hold up to one’s ear? At 5.3”, or 5.5” one can still do so fairly comfortably without looking ridiculous. Samsung is already testing the size waters, with its Galaxy Mega duo, which boast 5.8” and 6.3” screens. Will 6” be ‘just right’ ? Well, it looks like we will have to wait and see.
