Today, Avo is not just a superfruit, it is also the name of Nedbank’s newly unveiled super app. So named because it consists of a multitude of apps aggregated into one, the super app is intended to enable customers and businesses can manage their daily lives through one app, and help them, according to the company, “break through the digital clutter on mobile.”

More specifically, the app enables users to access a range of online products as well as various services from participating merchants, from their smartphone. To date the company has 170 registered merchants on its books, with more promised to come.

Fred Swanepoel, the Chief Information Officer of Nedbank, elaborated that Avo was created to bring customers and businesses together, as well as accurately match customer’s lifestyle needs to product and service offerings through artificial intelligence, safe and secure payments, and bank-grade security.

“Today's banks have an opportunity and a responsibility, to do far more for their customers than merely provide financial services. Platform ecosystems are the perfect way for them to deliver these comprehensive value propositions that their customers deserve,” explained Ciko Thomas, Managing Executive: Retail and Business Banking at Nedbank.

The beta version of Avo has been delivering essential goods, providing home entertainment and connecting home service providers across provinces to Nedbank employees ahead of a broader launch to the public.

On the cards is an Avo beta release to Nedbank Money App users. This will see the phased release of Avo to Nedbank clients, to allow for further enhancements before full public launch. The beta will allow Nedbank Money App users to use a two-click process to sign up seamlessly onto Avo.
