The past few months have been very good for Nintendo. The Japanese company has seen a significant rise in sales for its Switch console, as more game developers ported their offerings over to the platform. As far as original titles go, one of the more popular is Mario Kart, which has garnered itself a solid fan base in recent years.

Said base is set to grow though, with Nintendo announcing that a mobile version of Mario Kart franchise will be ported over to smartphones. The game is currently called Mario Kart Tour, and is going to be released sometime within the financial year, according to Nintendo. That's a fairly large window, which means we could see it as early as April 2018, or as late as March 2019.

Other details for the title, such as gameplay and features, are still to be disclosed, but this move is in keeping with Nintendo's plans to make greater inroads on the mobile gaming front. They've had some success with Super Mario Run, and this upcoming game should prove popular too.

Add to that the rumours of a Legend of Zelda mobile title as well, and Nintendo's smartphone gaming library is shaping up to be quite formidable.
