Music streaming service Pandora unveiled its latest on-demand offering, Premium, yesterday. Much like the current smart playlists available on Apple Music and Spotify, Pandora has now a rival of its own to compete for consumers’ hard earned cash each month. More specifically $10 (R137), which is essentially the same pricing as the other two music streaming services.

What's Pandora Premium got to offer? Along with on-demand access to a library of songs in the millions, the company notes Premium will also deliver ad-free streaming and the ability to save music for offline listening. The extent of how much can be saved, however, has not been disclosed at the moment.

In terms of design, Premium takes several cues from Rdio, an app the company purchased a little over a year ago. The interface of the app will also change colour according to the music one is listening to. Added to this, Pandora will be utilising the data from nearly 78 million of its current users to create a better recommendation tool. As such, the smart playlists should be more attuned to the users' tastes.

Whether or not that is indeed true will have to wait until early next year, when Pandora plans to release Premium. Hopefully, with the rollout of Premium, the service will also be coming to South Africa.
