Puma is now two years into their Nitro era of running shoes, with this renewed focus bringing along a number of impressive models. The latest focusses on stability, with the ForeverRUN NITRO just announced.

Puma believes this model encourages an optimal running stride, achieving it through a combination of cushioning with Nitro foam and enhanced guidance with its Runguide System. Runguide is noted as a “firm density guide rail designed to keep your foot aligned and centred through each stride.”

The shoe also features a newly developed Nitro midsole with two different densities – a softer core with a firmer rim – and an asymmetrical heel counter to hold the foot in place through every stride. The outsole looks different to other Nitro models, with a wider medial rubber segment meant to stabilise late-stage pronation, with the excellent Pumagrip for traction.

A unique element of the ForeverRUN NITRO is the sockliner engineered in partnership with the experts from Kaiser Sport & Ortopædi. This sockliner offers enhanced arch support and foot strike guidance through a supportive molded heel cup design and metatarsal pad, according to Puma.

For some tech specs, expect a weight of 224 grams (women’s) and 274 grams (men’s), which seems decent for a stability shoes, and a drop of an average 10 mm as you move from the 36 mm heel to the 26 mm forefoot.

According to the German sportwear brand, it had 196 runners put ForeverRUN to the test by logging more than 47 000 miles (close to 76 000 km) in its largest running wear-test yet. The wear-test study revealed the runners found ForeverRUN to be more stable, helped reduce pronation velocity and reduce peak tibial shock/acceleration. Thanks to ForeverRUN’s dual-density NITRO foam midsole, runners perceived the shoe to be softer and more responsive when compared to a traditional stability shoe.

What’s the cost you might ask? The Puma ForeverRUN NITRO is set to retail for R3 200 as it becomes available locally on 13 March on PUMA.com, PUMA retail stores and Totalsports.
