Harley Quinn vs Obi Wan? Not quite, but the latest trailer for Birds of Prey reveals a bit more of why crime lord Roman Sionis / Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) has beef with Quinn (Margot Robbie) and her partners.

The so-called Birds of Prey, consisting of Quinn, Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 10 Cloverfield Lane), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Underground), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez, Fearless), and Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) need to work together to plot his downfall, all while looking cool in the process. It does seem that with Joker out of the picture (we see him being blown up in the first few seconds of the trailer), Quinn is free to reign her mad destructive power down without any distractions.

Quinn certainly was the star of the show in Suicide Squad, so it makes logical sense for DC to set her up for this starring role. What we hope for from Birds of Prey is more of the sense of irreverence that Quinn is known for in the comic books and we have seen glimpses off in Suicide Squad. Letting Margot Robbie do her thing is definitely part of this process.

Helming the project is relatively unknown director Cathy Yan, having previously directed the 2018 movie Dead Pigs, while being written by Christina Hodson, known for her work on Bumblebee and Shut In.

There’s no need to wait that long for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) to be released. In South Africa the movie is set to debut on 7 February, less than a month away. Hit play on the button below to see some cocaine-fuelled action from Quinn and Co.
