Somewhat of a belated birthday gift, Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a new game next year, according to Japanese website Gematsu. The game is reportedly going to be a special edition version, marking his 25th anniversary this year. Gematsu relayed the news via game developer Takashi Iizuka, at a recent Japanese celebration for the video game character.

While the finer details of the game itself are unknown, Iizuka noted that more information would be forthcoming at Comic-Con this year (22 July). The Sonic-themed event will be live streamed for fans that wish to stay in the loop.

For Sonic's 20th anniversary, Sega released an Xbox/PlayStation title named Sonic Generations. As such, we're expecting a similar cross-platform release this time round. With 2017 still some time away, might we suggest you check out the latest Sonic Humble Bundle to get your blue hedgehog fix.
