Remember Sony's robot dog, Aibo? Well the Japanese company could be readying a new version for unveiling next month, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal (paywall enabled). The publication cites sources close to Sony, noting that a refreshed model of the Aibo will take more a smart home slant than previous iterations.

Given the current trend of smart home speakers, having a cute dog version that follows you round the house, could be a great idea. Along with smart functionality, the forthcoming Aibo is also said to feature better internet connectivity, as well as improved movement and mobility. With Sony still forging ahead with IoT-inspired devices like the Xperia Ear and Xperia Touch, adding the Aibo back into the mix may give the company an advantage over its competition.

For now, Sony has not commented on the reports, with no date next month being outlined for a device unveiling or press conference at this stage.
