At the end of April, we reported that Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, Burnt) would take on the role of Lara Croft for a Tomb Raider reboot. Now, Variety is confirming that the film is set for release in March 2018. The entertainment website says the movie will hit Stateside cinemas come 16 March, but other regions have not been disclosed.

While Vikander was not our immediate choice (Daisy Ridley of The Force Awakens in case you were wondering), she does have the acting chops, having recently won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in The Danish Girl. Whether or not she can handle the physical demands for the role, remains to be seen.

The reboot still has no official title, but will be directed by the awesomely named Norwegian director Roar Uthaug, whose most recent work includes natural disaster flick, The Wave. Hopefully the pair can do the iconic video game character justice.
