One of the most effective ways of showing someone what’s on the screen in front of you is to take a picture of the screen you see in front of you. Sounds simple, you just press “Print Screen” and… well, most people don’t know where to put what they’ve captured. You can use Windows Paint, but that may quickly turn into a nightmare.

Use SnagIt from TechSmith (the producer of screen capture software). You can capture exactly what you want to, you don’t have to capture the entire screen. If a page has a scroll bar in it then SnagIt automatically scrolls the window and captures all the content.

The real power of SnagIt lies in the editing tools. You can add lines, arrows, shapes etc. to any of the screens captured. You can also make the images you create fully interactive by adding hyperlinks and “Flash hotspots”, that display an image or text when you mouse over them. Get it for R355 (incl VAT) from Holton & Associates on 011-789-6181 or visit www.holton.co.za for more info.

PROS
It offers a wide set of powerful tools for screen captures.
CONS
It doesn???t offer as many output file formats as similar products.
