FUJIFILM South Africa is pleased to announce the launch of the instax SQUARE SQ1 instant camera, an easy-to-use addition for fans of square film. The SQUARE SQ1 follows hot on the heels of the instax mini 11, a camera renowned for its straightforward usability. Similarly, FUJIFILM designed the SQ1 to make photography as easy and user-friendly as possible, with new features that include Automatic Exposure and One-Touch Selfie Mode.

This new SQUARE addition to the instax range combines everything that fans love about the mini’s cool, modern style and functionality, with the larger, vibrant output of square film, which is 1.5 times the size of instax mini prints.

The instax SQUARE SQ1 features a minimalist design style which makes it not only an exciting instant camera, but also a compelling accessory. The square prints the camera produces are mirrored by the square nature of not only the body, but also the viewfinder, lens glass and the selfie-mirror on the front of the device. Just as eye-catching is the three distinctive colours the instax SQUARE SQ1 will be available in - Terracotta Orange, Glacier Blue and Chalk White.

The camera weighs in at a convenient 390g. (without battery, strap, and film pack), allowing it to be easily carried around, especially with the unique carry cases available.

To keep the instax SQUARE SQ1 as slim as possible (57.5 mm), the lens extends outwards from the body once switched on. As an analog camera there is no digital LCD screen at the back, instead the optical viewfinder is used to compose images.

Ready for the shot? Once the shutter is pressed the film automatically feeds out from the top of the device, taking approximately 90 seconds to develop. As far as batteries are concerned, the instax SQUARE SQ1 is powered by two CR2/DL CR2 lithium batteries (included) which will last in the region of a substantial 30 instax SQUARE 10-pack film packs.

To help both old and new instax users, two important features have been added to the SQUARE SQ1.

Automatic Exposure

This function automatically senses the level of ambient light when the shutter button is pressed, and optimises the shutter speed and flash output according to lighting conditions. It allows those who are new to instant photography to take photos that are automatically properly exposed regardless of conditions, producing clearer and more vibrant instant prints on the spot.

One-Touch Selfie Mode

Along with its built-in selfie mirror, instax SQUARE SQ1’s One-Touch Selfie mode is designed specifically for selfies and close-up shots. Users activate this mode by simply rotating the lens from ‘On’ to ‘Selfie’ mode.

This sets the best focus and exposure for the shot by changing the position of the lens when activated. Selfies can be framed using the selfie mirror on the front of the lens.

Availability

The instax SQUARE SQ1 will be arriving in South Africa in Terracotta Orange, Glacier Blue and Chalk White, and should be available in retail stores and online shops in the middle of October 2020. While the local recommended retail price has not been confirmed yet, the suggested price in Europe will be €129,99. The camera will be sold alongside a range of new accessories.
