Mobile processor developer Qualcomm has announced that after numerous delays it will begin shipping its dual-core QSD8672 Snapdragon CPU in Q4 2010.

The processor is expected to deliver a whopping 1.5 GHz of processing power and is designed for usage in smartphones and tablet PCs.

At present, the fastest mobile processor is the company’s MSM8660 Snapdragon chip, which runs at 1.2 GHz.

According to Computer World, the QSD8672 will deliver 1080p playback features and will offer integrated HDMI, DDR2 and DDR3 interfaces which should boost overall memory capabilities.

To put this into context, it was not long ago that entry level notebooks were offering 1.6 GHz single core processor options. In fact, some of these are still on the market today.

The fact that a dual core mobile processor deliver 1.5 GHz of power is certainly an indication that mobile technology is forging ahead in leaps and bounds.
