After joining the 10" tablet crowd with its Iconia Tab A500, Acer has now launched a 7" offering in the Iconia Tab A100. This competes directly against other 7” models, the likes of the Huawei IDEOS S7 Slim, Samsung Galaxy Tab and HTC Flyer.

The Iconia Tab A100 is powered the dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, with graphics being handled by an ultra-low power (ULP) Nvidia GeForce GPU that boasts Flash 10.1 support for an enhanced web browsing experience. It also sports a 7” (600 x 1024) capacitive display as well as Dolby Mobile technology to deliver improved audio quality with extended bass performance and added depth.

Acer has equipped the A100 with a 5 MP auto-focus rear-facing camera and a 2 MP front-facing camera for video calling, as well as multiple connectivity options including Wi-Fi, full-size and mini USB, optional 3G, Bluetooth 2.1 (upgradable to 3.0) and a built-in HDMI port to display high-resolution photos and HD videos on an HDTV or monitor.
 
 
One benefit of the A100 above the other 7” models mentioned, is that it operates on Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The tablet comes pre-loaded with clear.fi, Acer’s media sharing system that allows to easily access, play and share multimedia across the home network and to instantly publish updates to social networks the likes of Twitter and Facebook.

The Acer Iconia Tab A100 3G is available now at a recommended retail price of R4999, making it a lot more affordable than the HTC Flyer (R6360), but more expensive than the IDEOS S7 (between R3299 and R3799).
 
In related news, Acer also recently announced its first ultrabook, the Acer Aspire S3.
