Despite disappointment about the no-show of the Apple iPhone 5, the newly announced iPhone 4S still managed to crack one million pre-orders in a single day, surpassing the previous single day pre-order record of 600 000 held by iPhone 4.

Announced by Apple CEO Tim Cook, the iPhone 4S is the most powerful iPhone yet, packed with the dual-core A5 chip for faster performance and graphics; an all new camera with advanced optics; full 1080p HD resolution video recording; and Siri, an intelligent assistant that helps you get things done just by asking.

“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched. We are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”

iPhone 4S will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK beginning at 8 a.m. local time on Friday, October 14. South Africans will most probably have to wait until December to get a sniff of the new device.

iPhone 4S includes iOS 5, Apple’s most advanced mobile operating system with over 200 new features. Cupertino also introduced iCloud, a set of free cloud services that work seamlessly with the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC to automatically and wirelessly store content in iCloud and push it to all of the user’s devices.

South Africa is the always the last to get Apple products. I must say that this iPhone seem to be a pretty powerful device, the only thing that didn't change is the design, hence the 4S. Apple is full of surprises and I know they've something in store for it's customers.
