Technology companies love a good spat, and following Microsoft’s legal action against Barnes and Noble and co. last month for patent infringement, the latest legal battle within the tech world is between tech giants Apple and Samsung.
According to All Things Digital (ATD), Apple is suing Samsung, claiming that the Korean manufacturer’s Galaxy line-up of smartphones as well as tablet PCs, infringes upon some of its patents and trademarks.
This lawsuit was filed last Friday in the US District Court in Northern California, with Apple aiming to attain injunctions, damages, as well as a finding that Samsung wilfully infringed upon its patents.
“It’s no coincidence that Samsung’s latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging,” an Apple representative informed ATD.
“This kind of blatant copying is wrong, and we need to protect Apple’s intellectual property when companies steal our ideas.”
Samsung stated that it would oppose Apple’s legal action in the courts, with a company statement claiming “Samsung will respond actively to this legal action taken against us through appropriate legal measures to protect our intellectual property.”
Apple is also currently involved in another legal battle with Nokia, with the latter claiming that the iPad and iPod maker infringed upon additional Nokia patents in almost all of its devices.
