On the second and last day of AfricaCom, which is currently taking place in Cape Town, Samsung expressed its commitment to bringing 4G LTE and next-generation communications to the African market.

The electronic giant showcased its 4G LTE line-up, including various types of network systems, chipsets and mobile devices, and reported that it had “partnered with several governments and major service providers in Africa to deploy and enhance high speed mobile and fixed broadband networks, based on 4G LTE technology”.

“A large proportion of the African population is comprised of young and ambitious people, and Samsung believes that mobile broadband services will play a critical role in realising their economic development, just like we’ve seen in the US, Japan, South Korea and other Asian markets,” explained Youngky Kim, executive vice president and general manager in Telecommunication Systems Business at Samsung Electronics.

To this end, the company added that it had established business organisations in the region to continuously strengthen and expand its support for African service providers and carriers.

Samsung further asserted that its LTE base station boasts the industry’s highest level of coverage performance enabled by support for more than ten Remote Radio Heads with advanced RF capability and multiple reception antennas. It pointed out that this is very useful in the African market, which needs wide radio coverage at much lower cost.

In an effort to support the smooth transition to LTE, the company also showcased its readiness to provide the latest GSM solutions with competitive features, along with LTE deployments for African service operators as well, at the telecommunications congress.

Hopefully, this will mean that we just may see the Samsung Galaxy SII LTE and SII HD LTE land on our shores sometime in the near future.

In recent news, Samsung launched its new smartphone/tablet hybrid, the Galaxy Note in South Africa.
