A specialist when it comes to mobile processors. Qualcomm's flagship offering is the Snapdragon 835, which currently powers some of the best smartphones around. Some of the technology used in that CPU has now filtered down to the company's latest mid-range processor - the Snapdragon 450

Qualcomm showcased the device earlier this week, detailing that it will feature in certain mid-range phones moving forward, replacing the Snapdragon 435 CPU. 

As far as the technology used to design the Snapdragon 450 is concerned, it features a 14 nm FinFET architecture, and will cater for up to eight cores. As part of the octa-core setup, the ARM Cortex aspect delivers a 25% increase in computing performance compared to its predecessor, according to Qualcomm. 

Added to this is Quick Charge 3.0 support, as well as a 30% greater battery life while gaming, but this may vary depending on the mAh of the battery unit manufacturers opt for in their devices. On the camera side, the Snapdragon 450 will cater to dual lens setups, capable of handling up to a 13 MP plus 13 MP tandem on the primary shooter, as well as 60 fps recording. 

Other noteworthy elements include LTE connectivity, provided via the Qualcomm X9 LTE modem, which promises up to 300 Mbps and 150 Mbps download and upload speeds respectively. Finally, worth mentioning is the addition of USB 3.0, making the Snapdragon 450 the first in this tier of Qualcomm's lineup to feature it.    

Qualcomm says it expects manufacturers to release devices sporting the new CPU by the end of the year, which could mean that the offerings at September's IFA could be sporting the processor.
