After recently bringing Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to three more Xperia smartphones, Sony Mobile Communications (SMC) now reveals its upgrade plans for Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

Three of the Japanese company’s forthcoming smartphone models, the Xperia T, Xperia V as well as the Xperia TX will begin to receive the software upgrade to the latest version of Android from the middle of Q1 2013.

Following these devices will be the global versions of Sony’s Xperia S, Xperia go and acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, as well as the Xperia J.

Sony stated that the availability and rollout timing of these software upgrades will vary by market and customer variants. The firm will release further info surrounding more detailed timings for these in due course.

In addition, SMC has also revealed that Jelly Bean is unfortunately not coming to its 2011 range of Xperia devices.

“We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich,” a blogpost on the official Sony Xperia Product Blog read.

The company asserts that it is not able to deliver the smooth and snappy smartphone user experience to owners of these mobile devices beyond ICS. Sony said that it will continue to support all of these products with firmware maintenance releases though.

In related news, SMC also recently opened the renewed Sony Mobile Store at Vodaworld in Johannesburg, which will showcase the firm’s integration of Xperia smartphones together with the wide range of Sony products within the Sony family.
