Five more years for Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 will be turning five years old in November and recently underwent a ‘mid-lifecycle’ redesign with the Xbox 360 slim and the Kinect controller free, motion-based add-on. In an interview with, Chris Lewis who is VP of Interactive Entertainment in Europe for Microsoft said that he thinks 2010 will be a big year for Redmond.

“What you’ve seen is with this new sleek design and Kinect for Xbox 360 we’ve got at least another five years of this generation where we continue to offer great experiences for people,” Lewis said.

No 3D for PSP

One of the biggest headline grabbers of E3 was Nintendo’s 3DS. It appears however that Sony will not be responding with a 3D-capable PSP of is own in the near future as competition to their Japanese rival.

“No, no plans for that,” said Scott Rohde, Sony Worldwide Studios VP, in an interview with IndustryGamers. “It’s just not something we’re announcing right now. It’s just as simple as that. It’s all I can tell you,” he responded when asked about a possible successor to their PSP.

Sony achieves milestone for PSN users in Japan

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has reportedly hit the five million mark in registered account holders for the PlayStation Network (PSN). To celebrate this milestone the company handed out commemorative candy to its local publishing partners.  

In related news, the local prices for Sony's PlayStation Plus premium online gaming service have become available via My Gaming. A single year subscription to the service will cost R489, while a 3 month subscription will set local PlayStation 3 owners back R145.

Subscribers will be provided with a number of add ons including a freely downloadable game, two free PS Minis and one free PlayStation 1 classic. These titles will however only be valid for as long as the player is an active PlayStation Plus subscriber. They will also have access to discounts of up to 20-40% on selected titles as well as two full game trials and two dynamic themes.

Tweeting your Virtua Fighter high scores

Sega announced that Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown arcade gaming machines in Japan will boast a new feature. Gamers playing the latest fighting title in the Virtua Fighter series will be able to keep their Twitter contacts up to date on the accomplishments they achieve within the game.

Darksiders sequel drops in 2012

The sequel to Darksiders, which was one of our games to watch for 2010, will be arriving in 2012. According to gaming site Kotaku, publishers THQ disclosed this week that Darksiders 2 will be coming out in 2012. No further details regardign the sequel were revealed.

FarmVille creators Zynga has now crossed the five million mark for players of its latest social game FrontierVille.
