After recently revealing its upgrade plans for Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), Sony Mobile Communications (SMC) has now announced updated info surrounding these software upgrade plans.

The Japanese firm stated that the upgrade plans for its Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V are progressing as planned. These models were originally scheduled to be updated with Jelly Bean by Q1 2013. Sony has now said that users will start to receive the firmware updates during February and March 2013.

Following this smartphone trio is the Xperia P, Xperia J and Xperia go, which will all be upgraded to Android 4.1 as of the end of March 2013. Next in line is the Xperia S (review), Xperia SL, Xperia ion and Xperia acro S, as these smartphones will receive the software upgrade in the subsequent weeks after it has been pushed through to the Xperia P, J, and go.

Unfortunately, the smartphone and tablet maker elected not to upgrade its Xperia U, Xperia miro, Xperia tipo, or the Xperia sola (review) beyond Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

SMC stated that the availability and rollout timing of the updates will vary by market as well as customer variants, while no local release info is available yet. Sony further added that it will announce more details around all the features and functionality that Jelly Bean will bring to these devices early next year.

In related news, SMC also recently announced the latest addition to its Android-powered Xperia range of smartphones - the Xperia E. This mobile will be available in both single as well as dual SIM versions as of Q1 2013.
